Delusions of mediocrity
I think I’ve figured out why blogging is so hard for me.
- Very limited internet access at home.
- Wonderful internet access at work, but no free time to do non-work
- An infant at home, contributing to the lack of free time
- A paralyzing delusion that a post must be profound.
I think this last point stems from reading too many blogs with a purpose, where posts are either based on material that is updated daily (the comics) or articles that have been edited and refined over the period of multiple days (financial advice). I either need to get over myself and realize that no one reads this anyway or I need to just practice until I find something that works for me.
In somewhat related news, our second annual Christmas letter is looking to be more of an Epiphany letter, as it’s now December 30 and we haven’t yet written a single sentence. As I see it, the challenge is to condense 12 months into a single page while not ‘wasting space’ on the rehashing of the news that was spread to friends and family as it happened (e.g. Isaac’s health updates). I’ll let you know if we ever get anything written.

I find that a number of serious bloggers who have regular jobs are very focused. Many block out a couple hours a day. I find that early morning is good for an hour or two, and then a couple hours in the evening, after the children go to bed.
And on the related note, our Christmas letter turned into a New Years letter. We got it out on the second.
Thanks for the kind words about our blog.
Good luck.
