Casting Call

Yes..we did win the baby contest last week! But that’s the wrong kind of cast…

Isaac officially has his first major injury of childhood. As we were leaving this morning, he stood up next to the hinge side of the door and as it shut, his finger got smushed. Okay, that’s an understatement. We had to drive to the ER because the tip of his middle finger on his right hand had been cut through about 75% of the way.

He had his second X-ray, this time of his hand. Found out it had fractured the very tip of his finger and would now require an orthopedic surgeon and not just the ER Doc. We had a whole team of orthopedic residents and med students surrounding the little guy before and during the procedure to secure his fingertip back on. He was blowing raspberries at them….They were blowing them back. It was amusing. You would have all been proud. They gave him a concious sedation and a local anesthetic so he wouldn’t feel anything or remember it!

He’s a trooper. He has a cast on his arm almost to the shoulder, to keep him from both messing with his hand and stitches and to prevent the cast from coming off before it’s time. That will be in about 2 weeks.

He is fine. Please do not be worried. The doctors have him on a preventative anitbiotic and Tylenol with codine. He is currently in his Jumperoo, eating a biter biscuit, and jumping!!
