A Note on Potty Training
Isaac is still not potty trained. This is NOT his fault. He tells us he needs to go and we don’t pay attention and then he wets his diaper instead. Clearly it is far more difficult to potty train the parents than it is to potty train the child. I (the mom) have decided that as soon as we have training pants in his size (God bless a young and small child), I will officially toss the diapers (except for nighttime) and work with him where ever we happen to be.
When we realized how close he was and how far we were: We took Isaac to Tennessee to see his greatgrandmother and all of his other adoring fans. Having already decided we would try and do the potty training thing while we had the safety of linoleum floors, Isaac was allowed to roam the kitchen and living room without a diaper. We were supposed to put him on the toilet every so often and anytime he showed interest. Well, after peeing on the floor twice it was over. A diaper was reattached to him and potty training was set back a bit. However, if he showed interest we were still going to put him on the potty. Well, it was Sunday night, and Isaac had had two false alarms earlier in the day, so when he showed interest we shrugged it off and went on our way. Within 2-5 minutes, I went to change his diaper for bed and he had JUST peed. I put him into bed and within 2 minutes, he was screaming because he had had a BM. Go figure! If we had just put him on the potty when he asked, he would have done all that business in the potty and I’d have saved a diaper! Oh, well. We’ll try again once we have training pants.
