Doctor Appointments

I am going to tell you what I am ready to divulge and everything else will have to wait for next week. We are terribly overwhelmed with medical decisions and need some time to calmly and fully think them out. Please accept what information is here and wait patiently for us to fill in some of the blanks…

Neurology: Isaac does still have apnea. He is going to have a BAERS test done next week. It is non invasive with a mild sedative. Dr. Finkel recommends an apnea monitor with pulse oximeter to get a better baseline than what we get with just an overnight sleep study.

Hematology: Platelet levels are still high (haven’t ever been truly normal). Nothing to be concerned over at this point. Just keep an eye on it every few months.

Pulmonology: Let’s see him again to try and convince insurance to pay for the apnea monitor with pulse oximeter. Dr. Wayne (our family doctor) doesn’t want us to go back to the same pulmonologist. It’s a long story, please don’t ask.

2 Year Check-Up: Isaac weighs in at 26.2lbs, 31.75 inches tall. He is still on the growth chart. Dr. Wayne doesn’t want him to see a specialist at this point because the apnea is so stressful already and in the meantime, just give him Flintstone vitamins daily. Dr. Wayne also feels that Isaac’s medical needs have gone beyond what he can expertly provide and wants Isaac to have the best care available. He is referring us to a real pediatrician, not a family doctor.

There is a lot going on under the surface. Isaac is NOT in any danger. Zeb and I just need this week to calmly think through and make the decisions that need to be made without too much outside pressures. Please do not be offended if we do not talk to you about his medical issues. This is just something that we as parents need to do together and with our doctors, whom we fully trust.

We love each of you and covet your prayers for us as we are faced with a number of decisions that we were not prepared to have to make so suddenly. Please pray for wisdom and sound mind for Zeb and I, sound (not too sound) sleep for Isaac, and for compassion from the doctors as we proceed (or don’t proceed) with some of the options available. We will update everyone once decisions are made.
