Badge of Honor

Isaac had his blood drawn this morning because the neurologist wanted a more specialized test done besides the normal CBC differential!

Well, Isaac was amazing. I have to brag on him so bear with me.

We left for the hospital talking all the way there about how he was going to get a poke and the nurses were going to take some blood and that we had to go the hospital to have it done. Well, this isn’t a new thing for Isaac, and he generally tenses up as soon as we get on the elevator, relaxes a little while we wait for the nurse, and then screams as soon as he is in the chair. Not today! Today, he pushed the button on the elevator, babbling all the way about “hopital”"poke”"blood”. He walked off the elevator and promptly went to read the dinosaur book, that he knew was waiting just for him! I signed him in and about 2 minutes later the nurse calls him back. He RAN into the lab, climbed in the chair, swung the arm of the desk in front of him and declared “Poke”"Blood” and pointed at his arm. I did pick him up and hold him in my lap, but didn’t have to fight with him at all about the draw. He complained a bit when they put the tourniquet on, gave one good yell when they stuck him, and sat fascinated watching  the blood go into the vials. When they were done, they gave him a red wrap (instead of tape) to go over his gauze and told him it was his “Badge of Honor”. He left saying “bye bye” and blowing kisses…

Well, it’s been hours and he doesn’t need the gauze anymore, that’s for sure. He won’t let me take the red wrap off. He just keeps telling me “no, mommy, honor”. So the Badge of Honor stays at least for a few more hours…
